I had INTENDED to have a vacation at home this week, take the kids to the beach, to museums, etc. Get out of the house and play. Unfortunately the kids were sick, a lot. It all started on Friday, when instead of going quad riding and having a picnic, I took Kale to the doctor. Turns out he had a strep infection...I won't go into the details of where or how I figured it out for anyone who is queasy. Let's just say his bum bled. So we got him penicillin. Ironically, the 10 day treatment was to finish on his first day back at school.
On Monday, Bricker came came down with a fever. So I left him at home while Kaiya, Kale & I drove 1 1/2 hours to a the very cool Gilbert's Children's Discovery Village in Salem. It was freezing cold and rainy so the delicious picnic Brenda packed wasn't as pleasant as we had hoped. And guess who came down with a fever 15 minutes after arriving!? Kale.
I forced him to stay for 2 hours because I knew that Kaiya would scream if I made her get back in the car right then. I tried hard to remain positive, but seriously! That was what I can a "mom day." Ugg. I'm so glad Ro & Brenda were there to chase Kaiya. She had an awesome time. It was a very cool museum - we hope to go back when the sun is out and the kids are healthy.

Swimming got crossed off the schedule (due to the strep infection). As did the Zoo (due to the cold). We managed to have a quad riding day with some friends, the kids were thrilled. And we also went to the Rice Rock Museum. Fun, but hard with a 2 year old. How many times can I say "no, don't touch" and "Stop!" :)
Fri morning Kale woke up with a HORRIBLE rash.

I try not to panic about the kids too much, but blood on his bum, fever AND a rash!? Now I'm concerned. I called his new pediatrician (LOVE the guy) and the nurse says it is probably just a virial rash, related to the fever. But she'll talk to the doctor. I'm not too worried because Kale doesn't have a fever and clearly is feeling fine. When I looked at his rash he said, "Can I put my shirt on and play now?" The doctor CALLED me that night, twice actually (see! great doc) and said to take Kale off Penicillin, just in case. Rash got much worse over the weekend. But from comparing him to the pics on google...he has hives. Hmmm....now I know. Kale is allergic to penicillin. He is looking lots better now. I sent the boys off to school this morning. Healthy & ready to contract a new illness!
When Kale saw the rash he said, "Mom I look like a lepard. Like those guys who had spots all over their skin." A leper? "Yes. And if I lived a long time ago, like in the prophet movies, I'd RUN as fast as I can and JUMP into the JORDAN RIVER!" Ahh, to have the faith of a child, and the memory! That is my Kale.
