Church starts at 1:30 pm nowadays, so we lounged around all morning last Sunday and watched the wind stormbrew around us. The rain was sideways & the tops of the trees were thrashing around in the wind. Ron & Joyce left early, at noon.
At 1 pm we drove down the hill and Curtis pointed out all the branches down. I thought "I'm sure glad someone has gone down the road before us, otherwise I'd expect a few trees down across the road...WHOW, TREES!" Two huge firs had fallen across the road and demolished our neighbor's mailbox (obviously it had happened in the last hour). The single lane gravel road was blocked, and there are NO other roads off our "hill." Curtis promptly said, "We're not going to church today!" We we
nt home, Curtis called to find someone to cover class, changed his clothes, loaded up the chainsaw & headed down to cut up some timber. Our neighbor came home from his church in time to help drag the trees to his woodshed, happy to have more firewood. Country people love "windfall." :)
I was slightly annoyed about having to go through all the rush of getting everyone & the kitchen sink in the car, on time, and on the way to church. Plus, missing singing in the choir & not being able to bring treats like I had promised. But mostly because Kaiya looked so fabulous with a fancy hairdo. However, that morning I had secretly wished
for a quiet day to sit and read my book. So I was happy to have a valid excuse to do just that! I put Kaiya down for a much needed nap, had a fun primary lesson with the boys, read my JS manual, dozed off on the couch, then read my novel. Ahhh...just what I needed.
The funny part was that Ron & Joyce called on their way home, ANOTHER tree had fallen blocking the road. So, Curtis had to go down and cut that one up too!
Apparently, Fir trees are anti-religious.
One small detail that seemed to be overlooked, the whole time I spent cutting the trees (and no they were not small by any means) it was alternating between rain, snow, wind and a wonderful combination of the three. You have to love mother nature (or she will kick your ......)

Cute hair! I can never get them to sit still long enough to do that...
Kaiya's hair is really cute!
Attack of the killer Trees! Man that is awesome. I can think of a lot easier ways to get out of church though.
